Origin of Name

The image above is an example from some commercial computer system intended for field use, or likely use on an aircraft.

The name "Pelican" is a misnomer - Pelican is a popular manufacturer of rugged plastic cases for transporting gear. They have a line of transport cases which hold rack-mounted computer equpment, but they are not known to make an actual field computer.
